The Important Small-Print

I created the PDFs. The quotes essential for authenticity are derived from texts over 100 years old and thus are outside of Copyright concerns. The photos and images used are either over 100 years old or are listed as “free to use.” I created the maps. I am deeply indebted to George Skoch (who sadly passed away) for his mapmaking wisdom and permission to use his Hatcher’s Run baseline maps. My research has been blessed with the support of literally hundreds of people. I am loath to make a list as I will doubtless forget some of these wonderful individuals. Many chance encounters, primarily online, have each provided me with one or more factual gems that have enriched the narrative. I thank you all.

Some folks deserve a special mention. I would never have reached first base without Brett Schulte and Bryce Suderow. Bryce has worked with me throughout this journey, providing insights, resources, and contacts. Along with Bryce, David White, Robert Keech, Alan Bunch, Nathalie Juge, Reg Wilson, John Horn, and Tim Talbot have provided detailed comments on PDF drafts. I am indebted to Alfred Young III, for sharing his research on 1865 Rebel casualty data. I would like to thank the staff at North & South Magazine, Emerging Civil War, and the UK ACW Round Table for hosting my work. I thank the Petersburg Battlefield Foundation for showing my son and me around the battlefield in 2024 and for access to John Pegram’s ancestral home.
