Simultaneous Battles

Around 1 p.m., February 6, Union forces launched advances both along Vaughan Road and about a mile to the north towards the site of Dabney's Mill. This section provides a detailed account of the fierce fighting at both locations during that afternoon up to 5 p.m. I offer new insights into the timing of events along Vaughan Road. A credible narrative is provided of the chaotic fighting in the Wilderness-like terrain around Dabney’s Mill. We also travel with John Pegram and his men, who, late in the afternoon, marched from the Vaughan Road fight to the action around Dabney's Mill. The fate of Pegram is described in detail, busting many myths about this iconic battle aspect.
